We ran the good race to help beat Cancer!
The weather was just right, the atmosphere was superb and the buzz and excitement was in full flow as the Pure Homecare ‘Pure Cancer Punchers’ ladies got together last Sunday (5th July 2015) for the Leicester 10k along with hundreds of other women and girls who took part in the 5k and 10k on the day – which in total was a combined 2,700 females!
Our ‘Pure Homecare Pink Army’ consisted of Ebony Brooks, Jenny Wardle, Lola Ojomo, Sophia Rutherford and team mate Natalie Casey – all buzzing to get going from when we first set foot on Victoria Park an hour and a half before the event!!!
Starting with a fitness warm up put together by The Capital FM crew, reminiscent of popular high energy aerobics classes to get us all in the mood for what lied ahead – a gruelling 10k (the equivalent of just over 6 miles) – everyone began and finished with an enthusiastic spirit as we were all determined to run, walk or even crawl the good race to help beat cancer!
Donning our 80′s style pink fancy dress outfits along with our very own custom made ‘Pure Cancer Punchers’ vest tops, we certainly looked the business if we do say so ourselves – and echoed by many! So thanks to Lee Norwood from Bee in the Bonnet for his wonderful eye-catching design complete with our logo and boxing gloves!
The 69 acre park (279,000 m²) meant that we needed to all go round it twice encompassing differing routes. However, though at times it seemed a bit of a trek, it was thoroughly pleasant meeting other women and girls along the way – many of which were running the race for their own personal causes including women suffering from or who had suffered from cancer themselves together with those running the race on behalf of loved ones connected to the life threatening disease. It was lovely to see the vast array of costumes ranging from those dressing as pink school girls to those dressing as pink cartoon characters!
All in all it was a fun-filled, challenging, rewarding, at times emotional day and we were so happy that we had taken part in such a cause – as not only do we have our own personal experiences with cancer, we have built up relationships with Clients over the years with cancer – so we really felt we had a duty of care to support Race for Life.
Thanks to everyone that supported us in monetary terms, as well as those who supported us emotionally and in spirit!
If you would still like to donate to our ‘Pure Cancer Punchers’ group, even though the event is over – it isn’t too late to help us raise money for the important cause for Cancer Research. Here is our Just Giving link: www.justgiving.com/teams/pure-cancer-punchers
