Coronavirus: Care homes Vs Live-in Care, which is the safer option?

Care homes are often the most suitable permanent residences for individuals with complex care needs. Care homes can provide specialist personalised care from trained professionals, including Dementia Care, Convalescent Care, Disability Care and Palliative Care. Residents can feel part of a community, build relationships and friendships, supporting each other through these difficult times.

It's been all over the media - the rising cases of COVID-19 victims in Care Homes.

One common cause is that residents and staff are clustered together and maintaining social distancing rules can be practically impossible.

Defeating one of the main reasons to place your loved one in a care home - being part of a group or community whilst receiving 24-hour support.

Whilst some care homes have taken to isolating residents in their rooms; such measures are not always effective.

What choice can you make?

You can place your loved one in a care home where they may have a higher risk of COVID-19 infection with their independence and choice restricted?

You could choose; Live-in care

Here at Pure Home Care, we provide dedicated Live-in carers to support locked down clients, offering all aspects of support such as: help getting up in the morning and getting ready for bed at night; keeping up with housework; preparing nutritious and balanced meals; and importantly at this time, companionship. How is Pure HomeCare safeguarding Live in Care Clients from COVID-19?

We have taken every consideration to ensure we continue to safeguard client health and wellbeing during this time. We minimise unnecessary contact with multiple Care workers by providing each client with just 2 live-in Caregivers, rotating between them every two weeks.

We also have extremely stringent infection measures and highly trained Carers that are supported by our in-house Clinical Lead Nurse, to better protect and improve our clients’ safety. Our Caregivers even have what we call  ‘COVID Kits’ - these are a complete tool kit of PPEs designed to give as much protection as we can to our clients and Caregivers.

This one to one focused care approach also allows individuals to form real relationships and companionships during lock-down periods.
